The French Ski Federation makes a call to its World Cup host resorts for applications to consider organising the World Championships in France. Three resorts (Chamonix, Val d’Isère and Courchevel-Méribel) get ready and offer their bids.
THE FRENCH CHOICE
The Executive Committee of the French Ski Federation chooses the joint bid made by Courchevel and Méribel, considering it to be the one with the best chance of winning against international competition.
Courchevel méribel 2023
The “Courchevel Méribel 2023” association was created and various commissions were set up to work on all aspects of the bid.
The bid is officially submitted to the International Ski Federation.
At the FIS Congress in Costa Navarino in Greece, Courchevel Méribel 2023 is named winner by the President of the FIS, Gian-Franco Kasper, beating a strong Austrian bid by Saalbach! There is an outpouring of joy in the French delegation at the Congress who are proud to win it 14 years after Val d’Isère. The joy is shared by the French skiing world as the event is broadcast live on the FFS Facebook page.
Perrine Pelen, great ski champion (World Champion and triple Olympic medallist), is appointed Director General of the Organising committee, followed by Jean-Philippe Demaël (former DG of Somfy), as Deputy Director General.
The premises of the Organising committee are officially opened in the presence of President of the French Ski Federation Michel Vion and the 2 Vice Presidents, Jean Yves Pachod, Mayor of Courchevel, Thierry Monin, Mayor of Les Allues and many other local stakeholders. They are located in Courchevel Le Praz in the new Alpinium building at the foot of the Eclipse slope, 15 minutes by car and 8 minutes by ski from Méribel.
The new logo was unveiled by two children from the Courchevel and Méribel Sports Club.
SUMMER - automn
The Organising committee moves into the operational phase, bringing in new recruits to head committees.
The Cortina World Championships take place from 7 to 21 February.
Although the Cortina event is held without spectators, a delegation from the Organising committee is on a fact finding trip to watch the Cortina team at work, despite a health situation which forced the organisers to massively reduce the scope of the event.
